History of Masjid Agung Purwakarta

White domination is coloring Masjid Agung Purwakarta built in 1826 by Syekh Yusuf or Baing Yusuf. The Mosque is located on jalan gandanegara no.1 kelurahan cipaisan kecamatan purwakarta. In period Dutch colonialism and Japanese occupation, Mosque is located not far from Situ Buleud is the only building not occupied by the invaders. This happen because the invaders worried about emergence Islamic movement against invaders if they disturbed function of mosque.

This mosque seem luxurious with two towers located beside right and left mosque and large dome in the middle of mosque. A great watch is placed in front left corner of mosque. In the center there is pulpit that is divided in two. First, where the priest gives sermon. This place like a throne complete with chairs made of teak wood from Jepara, Central of Java. Secondly, the pulpit where the priest led the prayers.

Mosque area 2.285 square meters is experiencing some renovation. the first renovation in 1926 by Ibrahim Singadilaga. In 1955, the mosque was renovated again by Endis, Kian Santang and KH. Mohammad Aop is be "Kasepuhan Kaum". In 1967, this mosque is expanded by adding wing and place of ablution. In 1979, massive renovated mosque, but still retains original shape and artistic value.
